Practice drills

  1. 1. Find the changes in B Minor

Play only the root on the first beat of each change: B (bar 1, Bm), D (bar 2, D), E (bar 3, Em), F# (bar 4, F#). Keep counting through every bar that holds the same chord; the form resolves back to B.

  2. 2. Target the guide tones

When each chord arrives, land on its third and hold it for a beat: D over Bm, F# over D, G over Em, A# over F#. Then repeat with the seventh (see the table) to hear how the line leads into the next chord.

  3. 3. B Minor Pentatonic in position

Play B Minor Pentatonic (B D E F# A) up and down in frets 6–10, one note per beat at 118 BPM. Start and finish on B: 6th string fret 7, or 5th string fret 2 for the next position up.
